Toddler Beds

Well, last night was a big milestone for our little family. Andrew spent his first night in his toddler bed. It went much better than I would have imagined. At first, I thought we would put him in bed and it would take him 5 minutes to figure out he could get out and run around some more. Instead, he went right to sleep. Then I thought he would be waking me up at 6 in the morning while Mary was getting ready for work because that will usually wake him up a little bit. Turns out, it ended up being a pretty normal night/morning. He didn't get out of bed until about 8:30, which was shocking to me. Anyway, he was really excited about the new bed, and I can only hope he keeps sleeping through the night in it.

Rush: Ram's Owner

http://stlouis.bizjournals.com/stlouis/stories/2008/07/28/tidbits3.html?jst=pn_pn_lk

So Rush Limbaugh is thinking about buying a piece of the Rams. If that happens, I would have to seriously consider becoming exclusivly a Bears fan again.

InBev Changing the Cardinals Uniforms

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
7/14/08

( Brussels ) Anheuser-Busch has accepted a $52 billion takeover bid from Belgium-based InBev NV to create the world’s largest beer maker and end a month-long standoff. While pitching the deal in recent weeks, InBev chief executive Carlos Brito has said that he is "committed to the city of St. Louis " and that changes here would be minimal. One that Brito said will show up shortly after this weeks Major League Baseball All-Star event in New York will be a minor one in the long standing uniforms worn by the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball team. First-baseman Albert Pujols, one of the first to try the new outfits said “while it may take a little time for Cardinal fans to fall in line behind the change, I personally like them a lot. They’ll really be enjoyable during those hot, muggy days in late July and August. I expect all of the fans will be wearing them before the end of the season!” Sporting goods stores around the St. Louis area report brisk sales of the new Cardinal memorabilia.

All-Star Game

I cannot believe that I stayed up to watch the all-star game. It ended up going 15 innings. I think I just wanted to see what would happen if there was another tie? How would they have chosen home field advantage. Russel Martin (Dodgers Catcher) had a wonderful game, so that was fun to watch. It was a really good game, probably the best all-star game I have seen. Good pitching, good defence, good base running, great drama, and most importently the players seemed to care. Maybe it really does count now.

Josh Hamilton

Josh Hamilton is a major league baseball player who is having the year of his life.  Currently, he has 95 RBI's at the all-star break, and although I don't know the exact number,  I can tell you that very few have had that many this early in the season.

But that is not what makes his story interesting.  You see, he is a former #1 overall pick in the MLB amateur draft.  He was the can't miss prospect, a guy so talented that he was sure to be a superstar in the major leagues.  And then he got into drugs, and they ruined his career.  Or so we thought.

He was actually out of the game, not playing in the majors or minors from 2003-2005, before finding Christ and getting himself cleaned up.  His story is one of redemption.  He is finally having his break out year after years of drug abuse.  Not only does he hit home runs and drive batters in, he also uses his celebrity to speak to people, kids in particular, about the dangers of drug abuse.  He tells them his story, hoping it makes a difference in there lives.

Yesterday, Josh Hamilton took it up a notch as he won over the hearts of fans at Yankee Stadium, and probably the hearts of fans throughout the country while hitting 28 home runs (a new record) in the first round of the HR Derby.  I do not know Josh Hamilton, but I do know that God seems to be using him in a great way right now.

Hopefully, he can continue to be popular, continue to tell his story, and continue to make a difference in the lives of so many that have no hope.

Baby Update

Mary and I went to get an ultra sound today. Everything seems to be going ok with the baby. He is still a boy, and weghs approxomatly 3 lbs. 4 oz. which puts him in the 58th percentile--which is much smaller than andrew was. Little bit of good new for mary I guess....although I guess he can still go though a growth spurt.

The A-B Merger

Anheuser Bush has finally decided to sell to in-bev last night, in a $52 Billion deal no less. Share holders will get a dividend of $70 per share. It is kind of sad in many ways, mostly being that this was our country's last major brewry. However, most analysts say that this will be the most profitable route for just about everybody involved, except for the people about to lose their jobs of course. And really, doesn't it always come down to money?

Over the last few weeks just about everybody in America was screaming from a hilltop not to let this happen. And initially, when A-B rejected the initial offer, it was hailed as a decision that was almost patriotic. In reality though, a lot of financial "experts" are saying that this has been in the works for a couple of weeks, and most everything A-B has been doing has really been a negotiating ploy, which is also a little sad.

Anyway, I really don't know what to think. I don't drink, so I don't really have bone in this fight. I have never really supported A-B by buying their products, so should I really care? I don't know, but I guess I do find it sad that such an iconic company based in St. Louis will be in the hands of a company located in Belgium.

---------

On a seperate note about beer, I was talking to my brother about the Samual Adams brewing company, and we both found it interesting that Sam Adams had many relative literally drank themselves to death, and now has a beer brewing company named after him. I don't know if that is ironic or not, but I thought it was interesting non the less.

Movies

Recently, I decided I needed to start going to the movies again, and apparently I am into superhero movies, because the last two I went to see were the Incredible Hulk, and Ironman.

The Incredible Hulk was ok, if not a little disappointing.  It wasn't bad, just not good.  Ed Norton get his shot at being Bruce Bannor.  But he just seems to whiny to be in a super hero movie.  Idk, I'd watch it when it comes on tnt or tbs I guess.

Ironman on the other hand, may be the best super hero movie I've seen since, well, since Batman Begins, which might have been the last super hero movie I saw.  But anyway, it blows Superman Returns and Spiderman out of the water.  It was just awsome.  I never pictured Robert Downy Jr. as a super hero, but he is hilarious as the smart ass rich guy who also happens to be brilliant.  He is the owner of a mult-billion dollar weapons manufacturing company, and when he finds out (by personal experience) that the weapons he is creating are being used for evil, he creates a "superhero suit" to battle his own company.  The plot is hard to explain without making it sound corny, but the movie is just great and I would highly recommend it.

Speaking of Super hero movies, the next one I will go see will probably be "The Dark Knight" when it comes out.  It also looks really good.  And then the next blockbuster is supposed to be the third Mummy movie.  I don't know, I don't have a good feeling about it.  It just seems like that franchise ran it's course with the second one and they should have let it go.
